Termites

 

Termites can cause major structural damage to your home or business if left untreated. Here in middle Tennessee we typically see the Subterranean variety. We recommend contacting our office if you see any of the signs below that you may termites. If caught early you can greatly reduce the cost to remove as well as thousands on any structural repair damages these pests may cause.

Identifying Termites vs. Ants

Termites have a broad waist with straigh antennae and equal sized wings.  Ants on the other hand have a narrow waist with elbowed antennae and a second pair of smaller wings.

Look for These Signs

1) Mud Tubes

Subterranean termites live underground, but you may see mud tubs around your foundation as these pest hunt for food in your home. These tubes allow quick access to much need moisture for the subterranean termite. These mud tubes are a clear sign of possible termites.

 

2) Swarmers

These little insects are the early warning signs that termites are moving in. They are sent out by a colony to hunt for a new home with a nearby food source. If you see these winged swarmers you need to contact our office as soon as possible.

3) Damaged Wood

The wood in your home is composed of cellulose fibers that allow for this material to be use for construction and it also happens to be the favorite meal of the termite. You may noticed weaken siding or other wooden portions of your home that are more exposed to termites.
